Preface (The Saviors and the Superheroes)
I love this style of writing. I’m a person who seeks out the spoilers. I read the end of books before I start at the beginning. I hate surprises. Loathe them. I think I explained that before–if not, there you have it. I love that Meyer starts each of the books of this series with a glimpse of the end. It actually satisfies me enough to not have to read the end before I begin.
I love how the preface expresses Bella’s thoughts. If you’ve read Twilight, you know that Edward does plenty of saving for Bella. He really is her Superman. But in this moment, Bella is the savior. She understands that as she even thinks how noble it is for her to die in the place of someone she loved. Bella feels that her life means so much less than Edward’s and all the other Cullens. Forgetting that they do not have “lives” as we think of them. But that’s a discussion for later chapters.
In Pride and Prejudice, Darcy saves some of the Bennet’s reputation by helping Wickham and Lydia to marry. For that, Elizabeth realizes how much she loves him. Obviously, Pride and Prejudice isn’t as intense as this book, but I’ll continue to look at the parallels.
