According to my research, this is what Stephenie has said:
Several girls wanted to know if Edward would have a more difficult time being around Bella when she?s having her period. Answer: Yes, a little bit, but he would never say anything about it, he’s much too much of a gentleman. And Bella would be way to embarrassed to ask. (It’s not the same as a cut, though. I have come to a really weird realization/question… Is Bella able to have children? This particular question was sparked in my mind after having read the series for the fifth time. Honestly though… you never hear about the Cullens going crazy/bloodthirsty on Bella once a month, do ya?

I can’t wait for Midnight Sun to come out. I hadn’t heard that little tidbit before. I’m even more excited now. I love this chapter because though I hate to admit I’m a sap and when Edward swoops her up I think I may have swooned.
